LANL’s motto is Science in Service to the Nation. Now, however, the new LANL focus is 30 – 80 nuclear weapons pits per year to be manufactured in an area with no housing, no office space, no facilities capable of making pits, little water, and, in case of a nuclear accident, only two paved evacuation roads out of town. Let’s say America needs new nuclear weapons even though Russia, China, N. Korea, and Iran have already defeated our democracy on pennies to our billions just through hacking not only our infrastructure but our brains. Does it need to be here? Is it only all about jobs? What about this? Science in Service to the Nation—wouldn’t it be better if LANL were working to solve climate change which is already THE major threat of right now into the future. Even if we need nuclear weapons, Los Alamos is not the place to manufacture them. As our true environmental hero, would you please describe why you support funding for nuclear weapons at LANL rather than for supporting LANL scientists to help solve the climate cataastrophe which is right now—right now—destroying life on the planet?
