2023 DPLAC Ward Meetings and County Party Elections

Every two years (in odd-numbered years), Democrats across the state gather in their counties to elect local leadership.  Every Democrat registered in Los Alamos County as of January 19, 2023 can participate in their Ward meeting to elect Ward Chair and Ward Vice Chair, as well as people to represent them on the County Central Committee (CCC).  Then, the CCC elects the county party Chair and Vice-Chair and representatives to the State Central Committee (SCC).

Only members of the CCC may vote on the county leadership and SCC positions.  If you want to know more about the elected positions of Ward Chair and Vice Chair, CCC, County Chair and Vice Chair, and SCC, click here (opens a new page).

Since 2020, we have found that remote meetings and absentee voting greatly increase participation in our democratic process.  In 2023, Los Alamos Democrats will maintain our commitments to accessibility, inclusivity, and equity by continuing to hold our internal elections through remote meetings and absentee balloting.  All registration and voting processes will have a phone-in option.  Please email [email protected] or call election administrator, Dave Schiferl, at 1-505-470-8916 and leave a message for additional assistance.

What to do to participate in your Ward elections:

    1. First, fill out this Google Form with your name, address, and contact info between February 3 and 5pm on February 19 to sign up to participate in your Ward elections.  You may declare your candidacy for Ward Chair, Ward Vice Chair, County Central Committee at the time you sign up or by reregistering before 5pm on February 19.  https://forms.gle/2krBAKAtWLMUxvKh8
    2. Nominations for County Chair, County Vice Chair, and State Central Committee will be open until 5pm on March 5: https://forms.gle/Xm7R9YT3GpE7L7696
    3. Within a few days, you’ll receive a unique identifying number via email or a request for more information to validate your party registration.
    4. On February 19, at 2pm (Ward A), 2:30pm (Ward B), and 3pm (Ward C) there will be Ward meetings on Zoom to hear from the candidates for Ward Chair, Ward Vice Chair, and County Central Committee.  The meetings will be recorded and made available with the ballot, so you do not have to attend this meeting live to participate.
    5. On February 21, you’ll receive a ballot as a separate Google Form at the email you used to register.  You must complete it by 5pm on February 25.  You will enter the unique identifying number—not your name—to cast your vote for Ward representation.
    6. If your Ward’s election is contested (there are more nominees than positions), you will receive a link to a Zoom meeting on February 26 where the ballots will be counted.  Finally, you’ll receive an email notifying you of the results of the election for Ward leadership and representation.  Congratulations, you have participated in the democratic process!

Please contact [email protected] with any questions or difficulties or call election administrator, Dave Schiferl, at 1-505-470-8916!  Please leave a message, and we will return calls promptly.
